Other information:
AcoP belongs to a family of copper binding protein well known as cupredoxin. A lot of structure has been solved and most of them have been described as electron shuttle. However recently few of them have been shown to play a role of metallochaperones . AcoP belongs to a respiratory chain spanning the outer membrane to the inner membrane (rare_) of an acidophilic bacteria and couple the oxidation of iron and the reduction of oxygen. Proteins involved in this chain are periplasmic and function at pH3. AcoP function in this respiratory chain is totally unknown. We know this protein has a transmembrane segment in the inner membrane and seems tightly bound to the cytochrome oxidase. Another of its partner will be a cytochrome c. Their binding sites are still unknown. Describing its spectroscopic features demonstrate interesting new properties and motivate us to solve the structure. Getting the structure, we have indeed some regions of interest that we are studying right now to determine their role and that should help us to determine the exact function of this protein.
